Blessing Isonguyo is a Nigerian Broadcast Journalist, Teacher, Counselor, Inspirational Speaker and Social Entrepreneur. She owns a blog and has written two unpublished titles. Blessing has put in over twenty-five years in the journalism profession which she started as an intern with the defunct Concord Press, Lagos in 1990. She later joined the Punch Newspapers, Lagos, in 1992 as a young reporter. While in the university she served as a lineage correspondent with the Pioneer Newspapers. She went into broadcasting after the mandatory one yearservice to her countrythrough the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in 1998. Blessing today occupies the position of Assistant Director in the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation.
Moved by the passion to inspire and motivate the youths who were giving up in the face of hardship occasioned by unemployment in Nigeria, she created a 60-minute talk show known as Scars to Stars with Blessing in 2006. By 2011 over 250 fresh episodes of the program had been aired reaching an audience of about 28 million people within the South-South and South-East states of Nigeria.
Scars to Stars with Blessing shares stories of hope and courage from men and women who have overcome the negative circumstances of their lives to pursue their dreams and fulfil a purpose. They serve as models for others to learn from. Issues covered by the talk show include mental health, education, relationships, ethical values, business, politics and spirituality. As Executive Producer and Host of the show which aired on AKBC Radio and Television, she was able to personally influence hundreds of young men and women to find hope and direction in life. As an Inspirational Speaker, Blessing has moved hundreds of thousands of people to action with over 23 episodes of her Life is Beautiful Conference, Presentation at women conferences, youth conferences and seminars. Blessing Isonguyo also for many years, hosted the Life is Beautiful Broadcast on FRCN, Atlantic FM, Uyo. That programme served as a group counselling forum, offering answers to tough life questions and helping many to resolve their relationship issues and personal conflicts.
Blessing is the initiator and Founding President of the non-profit organization, Foundation for Sound Mind and Crisis Intervention (FOSMACIN) a platform to reach out to the vulnerable youth and women with tangible help. FOSMACIN focuses on emotional health and rehabilitation. Through FOSMACIN and its partners, Blessing has reached out to young people and women through counselling, advocacy on mind care, drug prevention and treatment; educational sponsorship for indigent students, reading clubs and donation of books to schools, trainings, care for orphans and vulnerable children and holiday camp meetings for teens and pre-teens.
Kings Bride International (KBI), another brainchild of this amazing personality, was born in 2010 as a non-denominational fellowship for women. KBI is concerned about building the self-esteem of women, empowering single mothers and mature singles economically, emotionally and spiritually.
Blessing has a heart for people, especially the weak and vulnerable, and would not pass off an opportunity to lend a helping hand whenever she could. Blessing believes that life is a gift from God and an opportunity to share. She is creative, intelligent and compassionate.
In consideration of her leadership qualities and brilliance at what she does, she was appointed Special Adviser on Women and Media Matters to the Obot Akara Local Government Council Boss in 2008. She served diligently for three years becoming the link to the unreached poor women, youths and the physically challenged in that local community.
Blessing holds a Masters Degree in Mass Communication from the University of Uyo and is currently studying for her PhD in Public Relations and Marketing.
She reads wide and has written on several motivational topics on her Weekend Pioneer Newspaper Column, After the Storm. She has also contributed to several publications including the Sound Mind Magazineand Ebedi Review. Her weekly blog is a good resource for ideas and inspiration.
